This morning my husband found what appears to be about a three week old kitten in our woods. It is very malnourished and lethargic. It looks like it may have been someone's dinner, but it got lucky and got away from the looks of the scratches and blood we washed off it. It has a big gash on its back that is pretty bad. It also has gunk in its eyes. What should we do? We fed it some cat's milk and some soft kitty food and it ate it at first and even went to the bathroom (pee and poo) but it hasn't wanted food or drink or gone to the bathroom again in the last few hours. It just seems to want to sleep. Even when I gave it a bath, it didn't fight or make one peep. Any advice would be helpful! Thanks!

Go to your local feed store and get some antibiotic and start giving it to your kitten it may be possible that it has some infection setting in. Or what ever got the kitten may have done some internal damage. Please keep us posted. Bill

There is a happy ending to this one..........We actually ended up finding two more kittens 12 hours later. They were SO close to death. I almost gave up on them.......however, I nursed them throughout the night and then took them to the vet the next day.........they have been on antibiotics for their eye infections and some antibiotic cream for their wounds as well as being wormed and treated for fleas..........boy were they a mess! Anyway, 3 days later, they are wrestling and playing.......you wouldn't even know they had been almost dead.........The only lasting symptom seems to be the two with large claw marks down their backs (probably from a coon).........They are such good babies too.......not a peep out of them whether they are getting a bath or getting antibiotics drops in their eyes..........they even play quietly. Now I just have to find good homes........Thanks so much! Shelia
